A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Cintalapa de Figueroa, Cintalapa, Chiapas, Mexico, was reported 31 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 137 km beneath the epicenter early evening on Sunday, October 17th, 2021, at 6:26 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake. A third agency, the United States Geological Survey, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4.
