An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred 4 hours ago 59 miles northwest of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter near Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, in the evening on Wednesday, October 20th, 2021, at 9:23 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Rocky Mountain House (pop. 6,500) located 23 miles from the epicenter, Rimbey (pop. 2,200) 32 miles away, Drayton Valley (pop. 6,100) 36 miles away, Sylvan Lake (pop. 10,500) 47 miles away, Lacombe (pop. 10,100) 55 miles away, and Red Deer (pop. 73,600) 59 miles away.
