An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 10 minutes ago 32 km southwest of Padam, India, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Padam, Kargil, Ladakh, India, early morning on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021, at 5:32 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Padam (pop. 25,000) located 32 km from the epicenter.
