Just 10 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Calama, Provincia de El Loa, Antofagasta, Chile. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, at 4:46 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 112 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Calama (pop. 143,100) located 39 km from the epicenter, and San Pedro de Atacama (pop. 2,000) 59 km away.
