An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred 36 minutes ago 99 km west of Kirakira, Solomon Islands, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Kirakira, Nakumwe, Makira-Ulawa Province, Solomon Islands, in the morning on Monday, November 29th, 2021, at 7:29 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kirakira (pop. 1,100) located 99 km from the epicenter.
