Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Isangel, Tafea Province, Vanuatu4.5 quake 10 Dec 11:56 am (GMT +11)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred 33 minutes ago 95 km northwest of Isangel, Vanuatu, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 110.2 km beneath the epicenter near Isangel, Tafea Province, Vanuatu, in the morning on Friday, December 10th, 2021, at 11:56 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Isangel (pop. 1,400) located 95 km from the epicenter.
