Moderate magnitude 4.5 quake hits 43 miles southeast of Akutan, Alaska, United States early morning

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.5 quake in the United States near Akutan, Aleutians East, Alaska, only 25 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Sunday, December 12th, 2021, at 3:41 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 29 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Akutan (pop. 1000) located 43 miles from the epicenter, Unalaska (pop. 4,500) 65 miles away, and Dutch Harbor (pop. 4,400) 66 miles away.
