An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 26 minutes ago 72 km southwest of Chilpancingo de los Bravo, Mexico, Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 32 km beneath the epicenter near Chilpancingo de los Bravo, Guerrero, Mexico, after midnight on Friday, January 21st, 2022, at 12:13 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the United States Geological Survey which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chilpancingo de los Bravo (pop. 187,300) located 72 km from the epicenter.
