An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred only 9 minutes ago 38 km northeast of Chuquitira, Peru, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 153 km beneath the epicenter near Chuquitira, Provincia de Tarata, Tacna, Peru, early afternoon on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, at 2:17 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.5 earthquake.
