Just 18 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Chiba, Chiba-shi, Japan. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday, April 4th, 2022, at 10:29 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 64 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Chiba (pop. 919,700) located 11 km from the epicenter, Yotsukaidō (pop. 86,700) 13 km away, Matsudo (pop. 470,300) 17 km away, Ichihara (pop. 283,500) 18 km away, Sakura (pop. 182,500) 19 km away, Kashiwa (pop. 340,200) 22 km away, Abiko (pop. 131,800) 22 km away, Nagareyama (pop. 156,000) 24 km away, Tokyo (pop. 8,336,600) 31 km away, and Yokohama (pop. 3,574,400) 43 km away.
