Moderate 4.2 quake hits near Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico4.2 quake 13 Apr 4:35 am (GMT -5)
Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Mexico near Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, only 21 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, at 4:35 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 30 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santa Maria Cortijo (pop. 1,100) located 5 km from the epicenter, Santiago Llano Grande (pop. 1,900) 9 km away, El Ciruelo (pop. 2,200) 11 km away, Santo Domingo Armenta (pop. 2,600) 12 km away, San Juan Bautista Lo de Soto (pop. 1,900) 12 km away, Cuajinicuilapa (pop. 10,300) 14 km away, Santiago Pinotepa Nacional (pop. 29,600) 27 km away, and San Juan Cacahuatepec (pop. 4,200) 28 km away.
