Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Mexico near Juchitan de Zaragoza, Heroica Ciudad de Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, only 26 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday, April 15th, 2022, at 3:43 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Comitancillo (pop. 3,900) located 4 km from the epicenter.
In Asuncion (pop. 7,200) located 12 km from the epicenter, Ixtepec (pop. 25,400) 13 km away, Juchitan de Zaragoza (pop. 74,800) 15 km away, San Blas Atempa (pop. 12,000) 16 km away, and Santo Domingo Tehuantepec (pop. 42,100) 17 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Salina Cruz (pop. 76,600) located 32 km from the epicenter, and Matias Romero Avendaño (pop. 18,900) 48 km away.
