Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported a magnitude 4.3 quake in Mexico near Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, only 28 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022, at 12:32 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include El Vergel [Campo] (pop. 15) located 78 km from the epicenter, Puerto Peñasco (pop. 56,800) 80 km away, and San Felipe (pop. 16,700) 99 km away.
