The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.0 quake in Argentina near Mendoza, Guaymallén, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Saturday, June 18th, 2022, at 3:24 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 133 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mendoza (pop. 876,900) located 90 km from the epicenter, Puente Alto (pop. 510,400) 102 km away, San Martin (pop. 82,500) 105 km away, La Pintana (pop. 201,200) 107 km away, Santiago de Chile (pop. 4,837,300) 107 km away, San Bernardo (pop. 249,900) 113 km away, and Lo Prado (pop. 104,300) 115 km away.
