An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 13 minutes ago 71 km southeast of Taitung City, Taiwan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 21 km beneath the epicenter near Taitung City, Taiwan, in the evening on Friday, July 1st, 2022, at 9:32 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
