Just 11 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Monday, July 4th, 2022, at 7:30 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.3 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fern Forest (pop. 930) located 9 miles from the epicenter, Volcano Village (pop. 2,600) 10 miles away, Hawaiian Acres (pop. 2,700) 14 miles away, Mountain View (pop. 3,900) 15 miles away, Ainaloa (pop. 3,000) 15 miles away, Orchidlands Estates (pop. 2,800) 17 miles away, Hawaiian Beaches (pop. 4,300) 19 miles away, and Hawaiian Paradise Park (pop. 11,400) 20 miles away.
