A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early evening near Tejen, Provincia de Ahal, Turkmenistan.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, at 6:07 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tejen (pop. 67,300) located 36 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sarahs (pop. 46,500) located 74 km from the epicenter, Kaka (pop. 18,500) 102 km away, and mali (pop. 114,700) 111 km away.

Moderate magnitude 4.3 quake hits 61 km northwest of Turbat-i-Shaikh Jam, Iran in the afternoon

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Turbat-i-Shaikh Jam, Razavi Khorasan, Iran, was reported only 22 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 6 km beneath the epicenter in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, at 5:07 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
