Just 10 minutes ago, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Tomakomai, Tomakomai Shi, Hokkaido, Japan. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Saturday, July 30th, 2022, at 9:55 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 134 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the first seismological agency to report it.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Tomakomai (pop. 174,800, 21 km away), Chitose (pop. 92,900, 35 km away), Shiraoi (pop. 20,800, 37 km away), Shizunai-furukawachō (pop. 22,400, 51 km away), Kitahiroshima (pop. 62,400, 54 km away), Ebetsu (pop. 134,000, 69 km away), Muroran (pop. 96,200, 70 km away), Sapporo (pop. 1,883,000, 71 km away), and Iwamizawa (pop. 85,100, 76 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
