Magnitude 4.9 earthquake strikes near Ovalle, Limarí, Coquimbo Region, Chile

Just 10 minutes ago, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Ovalle, Limarí, Coquimbo Region, Chile. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at 5:01 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 36 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ovalle (pop. 77,100) located 35 km from the epicenter, Monte Patria (pop. 13,900) 57 km away, Coquimbo (pop. 161,300) 85 km away, La Serena (pop. 154,500) 93 km away, and La Serena (pop. 154,500) 93 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Illapel (pop. 22,800) located 110 km from the epicenter.
