Magnitude 5.2 earthquake strikes near Tomohon, Kota Tomohon, North Sulawesi, Indonesia

5.2 quake 18 Aug 3:46 pm (GMT +8)
Indonesia was shaken near Tomohon, Kota Tomohon, North Sulawesi, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 14 minutes ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 173 km beneath the epicenter near Tomohon, Kota Tomohon, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, early afternoon on Thursday, August 18th, 2022, at 3:46 pm local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tomohon (pop. 27,600) located 115 km from the epicenter, and Tondano (pop. 33,300) 119 km away.
