4.4 quake 7 Feb 11:14 pm (GMT +2)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 19 minutes ago 13 km north of Neapolis, Palestinian Territories, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Neapolis, Nablus, West Bank, Palestinian Territories, late at night on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, at 11:14 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Maythalūn (pop. 6,800) located 1 km from the epicenter, Neapolis (pop. 130,300) 13 km away, and Balata (pop. 17,100) 14 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Umm al Fahm (pop. 41,000) located 23 km from the epicenter, Chadera (pop. 75,900) 36 km away, Netanya (pop. 171,700) 39 km away, Ramala (pop. 24,600) 49 km away, Ar Rām wa Ḑāḩiyat al Barīd (pop. 24,800) 55 km away, and Jericho (pop. 19,800) 55 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Amman (pop. 1,275,900) located 77 km from the epicenter.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
