4.4 quake 4 May 6:06 pm (GMT +8)
4.4 quake 4 May 6:06 pm (GMT +8)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 20 minutes ago 39 km northeast of Kidapawan, Philippines, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 27 km beneath the epicenter near Kidapawan, Province of Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines, early evening on Thursday, May 4th, 2023, at 6:06 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Simod (pop. 5,100) located 21 km from the epicenter, Kidapawan (pop. 79,700) 39 km away, Quezon (pop. 27,200) 45 km away, and Kabacan (pop. 31,800) 49 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Panabo (pop. 84,700) located 52 km from the epicenter, Central (pop. 1,212,500) 53 km away, Magugpo Poblacion (pop. 233,300) 67 km away, Digos (pop. 116,100) 68 km away, and Koronadal (pop. 125,500) 101 km away.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you're in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
