Background
Mount Murphy is a glacially dissected basaltic-trachytic shield volcano that formed during the Miocene. A Potassium-Argon date on a parasitic cone of 0.9 million years ago indicates that flank activity resumed much later during the Pleistocene (LeMasurier 1972, LeMasurier et al. 1990).---
