Stromboli volcano, Italy: elevated activity 24-26 July 2019
Photographs taken by volcanologist Dr Ingrid Smet when she observed Stromboli's volcanic activity from 24 to 26 July 2019. During this time span, the volcano remained at a level of higher than usual activity with very frequent Strombolian explosions. Some of these were so strong that at night one could observe the glowing bombs from the village. The lava flows that occurred after the 3 July paroxysm were also still active on the upper parts of the western edge of the Sciara.
