Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes near Lata, Santa Cruz Islands, Temotu Province, Solomon Islands

6.1 quake 25 Nov 11:04 pm (GMT +11)
An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred only 14 minutes ago 66 km east of Lata, Solomon Islands, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Lata, Santa Cruz Islands, Temotu Province, Solomon Islands, late at night on Thursday, November 25th, 2021, at 11:04 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 5.7 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 6.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Lata (pop. 550) located 66 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
