4.3 quake 19 Jan 3:41 am (GMT +3)
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Tuesday 19 January 2021 at 3:41 am local time at a very shallow depth of 0 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. A third agency, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Ortaca (pop. 19,700) located 37 km from the epicenter, Gölhisar (pop. 12,700) 39 km away, Dalaman (pop. 19,300) 41 km away, and Fethiye (pop. 60,400) 47 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Sarigerme (pop. 16,000) located 51 km from the epicenter, Serinhisar (pop. 17,200) 60 km away, Muğla (pop. 48,200) 66 km away, Denizli (pop. 313,200) 79 km away, and Merkezefendi (pop. 280,300) 83 km away.
