Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.8 just reported 58 km west of Abra Pampa, Argentina

Just 8 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Abra Pampa, Departamento de Cochinoca, Jujuy, Argentina. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday 30 April 2021 at 2:04 am local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 272 km below the surface.

The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.4.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Abra Pampa (pop. 9,400) located 58 km from the epicenter. In El Aguilar (pop. 3,700, 77 km away), and Villazon (pop. 30,300, 102 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
