Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 41 km southeast of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in the evening

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Cuba near Santiago de Cuba, Municipio de Santiago de Cuba, Provincia de Santiago de Cuba, only 18 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Sunday 18 July 2021 at 9:33 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santiago de Cuba (pop. 555,900) located 41 km from the epicenter.
