An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred only 27 minutes ago 42 miles southwest of Hilo, Hawaii, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported.
3.2 quake 21 Jul 10:30 am (GMT -10)
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 23 miles beneath the epicenter near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA, in the morning on Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 10:30 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Pāhala (pop. 1,400, 4 miles away), Volcano Village (pop. 2,600, 20 miles away), Hawaiian Ocean View (pop. 4,400, 25 miles away), Mountain View (pop. 3,900, 31 miles away), Hawaiian Paradise Park (pop. 11,400, 39 miles away), Hilo (pop. 43,300, 42 miles away), Holualoa (pop. 8,500, 45 miles away), and Kailua Kona (pop. 12,000, 48 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
