Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.3 just reported 88 km southwest of San Rafael del Sur, Nicaragua

A shallow magnitude 4.3 earthquake was reported early evening near San Rafael del Sur, Departamento de Managua, Nicaragua.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 7:35 pm local time at a shallow depth of 21 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.1 quake in Nicaragua near Jinotepe, Departamento de Carazo, only 14 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 7:28 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 50 km.
