Just 11 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Port-de-Paix, Arrondissement de Port-de-Paix, Nord-Ouest, Haiti. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022, at 6:06 am local time, at a shallow depth of 17 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Port-de-Paix (pop. 250,000) located 35 km from the epicenter.
