Small earthquake of magnitude 3.4 just reported 12 miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes, California, United States

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, California, USA, was reported only 9 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.3 miles beneath the epicenter early evening on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, at 6:30 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Aspen Springs (pop. 65) located 6 miles from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mammoth Lakes (pop. 7,900) located 12 miles from the epicenter, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek (pop. 2,600) 24 miles away, and Bishop (pop. 3,800) 26 miles away. In Big Pine (pop. 1,800, 38 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
