Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.4 reported 98 km northeast of Cabrera, Dominican Republic4.4 quake 24 May 1:50 am (GMT -4)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred 34 minutes ago 98 km northeast of Cabrera, Dominican Republic, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Cabrera, Provincia Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Dominican Republic, early morning on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022, at 1:50 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cabrera (pop. 4,900) located 98 km from the epicenter.
