The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 5.0 quake in Peru near Moquegua, Provincia de Mariscal Nieto, Departamento de Moquegua, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Thursday, June 30th, 2022, at 12:21 am local time at an intermediate depth of 142 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0.
