Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes near Higuey, Higüey, Provincia de La Altagracia, Dominican Republic

An intermediate magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported early morning near Higuey, Higüey, Provincia de La Altagracia, Dominican Republic.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, at 1:05 am local time at an intermediate depth of 136.8 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
