Just 10 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Alaska City, Anchorage County, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Wednesday 20 January 2021 at 3:55 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 32 miles below the surface.

The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Point MacKenzie (pop. 530, 5 miles away), Alaska City (pop. 298,700, 8 miles away), Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600, 9 miles away), Eagle River (pop. 24,800, 9 miles away), Eagle River (pop. 24,800, 9 miles away), Big Lake (pop. 3,400, 14 miles away), Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900, 15 miles away), and Wasilla (pop. 9,300, 22 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
