Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes near Lutak, Haines County, Alaska, USA

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in the United States near Lutak, Haines County, Alaska, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Sunday 28 February 2021 at 10:04 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 1.3 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lutak (pop. 49) located 17 miles from the epicenter, Mud Bay (pop. 210) 17 miles away, Covenant Life (pop. 86) 20 miles away, Mosquito Lake (pop. 310) 28 miles away, and Skagway (pop. 920) 29 miles away.
