An intermediate magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported in the afternoon near Mito, Mito-shi, Ibaraki, Japan.
According to Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the quake hit on Saturday 24 April 2021 at 5:59 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 102.6 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms.
