The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pedregal (pop. 14) located 15 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Camana (pop. 16,400) located 35 km from the epicenter, La Punta (pop. 260) 40 km away, El Pedregal (pop. 20,100) 83 km away, Santa Rita de Siguas (pop. 4,000) 95 km away, and Lluta (pop. 6,000) 112 km away.
