Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.4 just reported 73 km northeast of Iwaki, Japan

According to Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the quake hit on Wednesday 5 May 2021 at 3:10 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 35.3 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Namie (pop. 21,900) located 69 km from the epicenter, Iwaki (pop. 357,300) 73 km away, Kitaibaraki (pop. 50,800) 95 km away, Hitachi (pop. 186,300) 114 km away, Kōriyama (pop. 340,600) 118 km away, and Fukushima (pop. 294,200) 124 km away.
