Moderate magnitude 4.3 earthquake 74 km northeast of Mutsu, Japan

Just 10 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Mutsu, Mutsu-shi, Aomori, Japan. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Tuesday 11 May 2021 at 12:47 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 64.4 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.0.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mutsu (pop. 49,200) located 74 km from the epicenter, and Misawa (pop. 42,800) 103 km away.
