Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.7 reported 86 km east of Huanuco, Peru

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred 39 minutes ago 86 km east of Huanuco, Peru, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 43.8 km beneath the epicenter near Huanuco, Provincia de Huánuco, Region de Huanuco, Peru, in the morning on Monday 10 May 2021 at 10:36 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Rio Negro (pop. 150) located 17 km from the epicenter, and Oxapampa (pop. 12,000) 55 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Villa Rica (pop. 7,400) located 76 km from the epicenter, Ambo (pop. 6,900) 80 km away, Huanuco (pop. 148,000) 86 km away, Perené (pop. 6,800) 100 km away, Cerro de Pasco (pop. 78,900) 108 km away, and Cerro de Pasco (pop. 78,900) 108 km away.
