An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred in the afternoon on Sunday 18 July 2021 at 5:32 pm local time near Arica, Provincia de Arica, Region de Arica y Parinacota, Chile, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 103.5 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms.
