Significant 5.1 quake hits near Nacozari Viejo, Nacozari de García, Sonora, Mexico

Just 17 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Nacozari Viejo, Nacozari de García, Sonora, Mexico. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Saturday 31 July 2021 at 2:19 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.

Moderate shaking probably occurred in San Juan del Rio (pop. 360) located 1 km from the epicenter.
In Villa Hidalgo (pop. 1,400) located 15 km from the epicenter, and Nacozari Viejo (pop. 11,900) 30 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Los Hoyos (pop. 1,100) located 45 km from the epicenter, Cumpas (pop. 3,000) 52 km away, Esqueda (pop. 6,700) 53 km away, Moctezuma (pop. 4,300) 62 km away, and Agua Prieta (pop. 77,300) 117 km away.
