Moderate 4.4 quake hits near Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 23 minutes ago 86 km southeast of Agua Prieta, Mexico, Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported.
4.4 quake 31 Jul 6:55 pm (GMT -7)
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 4 km beneath the epicenter near Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, early evening on Saturday 31 July 2021 at 6:55 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Morelos (pop. 270) located 26 km from the epicenter, Esqueda (pop. 6,700) 34 km away, Nacozari Viejo (pop. 11,900) 43 km away, and Villa Hidalgo (pop. 1,400) 49 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Monte Verde (pop. 1,100) located 63 km from the epicenter, Agua Prieta (pop. 77,300) 86 km away, Douglas (pop. 16,600) 87 km away, and Cananea (pop. 31,600) 107 km away.
