4.8 quake Central Peru 19 Nov 7.11 pm (GMT -5)
An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 13 minutes ago 82 km south of Sicuani, Peru, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 151.2 km beneath the epicenter early evening on Thursday 19 November 2020 at 7.11 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Ocoruro (pop. 200) located 24 km from the epicenter, Tarucamarca (pop. 200) 29 km away, Tisco (pop. 200) 40 km away, Buena Vista (pop. 200) 42 km away, and Ocuviri (pop. 800) 49 km away.
