A shallow magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported in the morning near Bengkulu, Indonesia.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Sunday 21 February 2021 at 11:24 am local time at a shallow depth of 18 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
