Moderate magnitude 4.3 earthquake 18 km southwest of Técpan de Galeana, Mexico4.3 quake 27 Feb 1:06 am (GMT -6)
A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Técpan de Galeana, Guerrero, Mexico, was reported only 27 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 15 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday 27 February 2021 at 1:06 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Carrizal Cinta Larga (pop. 270) located 8 km from the epicenter, Nuxco (pop. 2,000) 12 km away, Tenexpa (pop. 1,800) 13 km away, El Suchil (pop. 7,000) 18 km away, Técpan de Galeana (pop. 15,100) 18 km away, San Luis San Pedro (pop. 4,200) 23 km away, San Jeronimo de Juarez (pop. 7,200) 30 km away, and Atoyac de Alvarez (pop. 21,400) 36 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Petatlan (pop. 21,700) located 73 km from the epicenter.
