Karangetang has been moderately active during the past months, frequently producing small to medium-siyed ash explosions. Based on a pilot observation, the Darwin VAAC reported that on 30 May, 2005, ash from Karangetang was drifting eastwards from Karangetang volcano at a height below 3 km (10,000 ft) a.s.l.
