Es probable que se está produciendo una erupción submarina en el volcán sumergido. Una imagen de satélite de la NASA desde 29 Jan muestra una columna de agua de mar descolorida remolinar y deriva de la ubicación del volcán. La decoloración es probable de sedimentos volcánicos suspendidos (la lava fragmentado) y gases.
Kavachi es un volcán submarino en el extremo sur de las Islas Salomón en el océano Pacífico occidental. Irrumpió docenas de veces en el siglo XX, a menudo rompiendo la superficie del agua, sólo para ser erosionado vuelve por debajo de la línea de agua dentro de unos meses.
Si la nueva erupción se rompen la superficie y crear otra nueva isla todavía está por verse. Directamente sobre el pico submarino, un parche brillante es visible que sugiere batido vigorosamente por agua — pero no hay señales que la erupción ha roto la superficie. (NASA)
